WC Wildcats repeat as COED Beach Soccer Champions!!
The 2010 Chicago Beach Soccer Festival had everything, a monsoon on the first
day, thick fog and wind on the second but Beach Soccer brings out the best in
everyone and nothing deterred the Festival which went on despite the set backs.
"When we got to Montrose Harbor on Saturday morning it looked like Lake Michigan
had covered the entire beach there was so much standing water" commented Branko
Ilic, President of ISSA. "Thanks to the Chicago Park District, the volunteers
and staff of both the ISSA and IYSA we were able to get the fields ready and
everything in place for an 11 AM start" continued Ilic. "It was a terrific
effort by everyone involved"
The inaugural Media Match was played on Sunday Morning with Fred Heubner (ESPN
1000) captaining a side against former US National Beach Soccer player Beny
Asorda, Illinois Soccer Hall of Famers and Mike Humes VP of the Chicago Fire, it
was a close game with Fred showing some impressive moves to help keep the Media
from being schooled on the finer points of beach soccer by the veteran Hall of
Famers and the former National team player, the game ended 1-1 with talk of goal
line technology being implemented in next years match up!
