Lamar Hunt Men's US Soccer Open Cup

ISSA Teams Dominate at the Region II Qualifiers

It’s not heard to believe that two of Illinois’ most storied and successful teams are through to the next round of the 2008 US Lamar Hunt Qualifiers but the potential to have both teams in the Region II finals is almost too much to wish for, but that is exactly what could happen.

RWB Adria beat out the Caparthian Kickers (Michigan) in a penalty shoot out which went to 9 pk takers before the game was decided. The match has been deemed an instant classic. “It was probably the best game I have seen in years and years. Better than any MSL game I have been to.” Remarked Region II Cups Commissioner Debra Trapikas, “Both teams were fast, concise, explosive! But in the end, the congratulations went to RWB Adria of Illinois.”

The game between AAC Eagles and the Milwaukee Bavarians (Wisconsin) was similarly hard fought but ended in regulation time 3-2 in favor of the Illinois team. In the first two minutes of the game Eagles player Peter Kolasinski shot a rocket from 20 yards out to put the Polish team up 1-0, the Bavarian’s never really recovered. David Otachel netted the other two for the Eagles. “On paper the Bavarians looked stronger, well known players, every one of them” said Eagles coach Adam Kapusta, “but our team stuck to the game plan and prevailed in the end”.
